Trustee Vacancy
Merseyside Law Centre (MLC) provides free specialist legal advice to people disadvantaged by poverty, disability, and lack of confidence and knowledge about their legal rights. MLC delivers advice and representation on social welfare law issues, including housing and welfare benefits, to residents of Merseyside.
At a time when cost-of-living and housing issues are impacting our communities more than ever, Merseyside Law Centre provides vital access to justice for communities. Demand for our services is high and our staff, volunteers and Trustees work hard so that MLC can provide as much support as possible to those who need it most.
Last year we provided advice and support to 1,300 clients, helping many to remain in their homes, avoid homelessness, challenge benefit decisions, and access benefit entitlements. Our support helps to reduce anxiety over legal issues, enables increased housing security, results in financial gains through benefit awards, and demonstrates the importance of access to advice.
We are part of the Law Centres Network (LCN) which supports and enables collaboration across the 40+ law centres in the UK.
As a registered charity, we have a Board of Trustees who lead the charity and decide how it is run. The MLC Trustee Board is seeking to appoint enthusiastic and knowledgeable individuals who have a commitment to access to advice and justice. By becoming a Trustee you’ll have an opportunity to use your skills, knowledge and experience to help make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
It isn’t necessary to have previous Board experience as training and support will be provided.
Who we want
We are open to applications from individuals with a broad range of skills – you don’t need to have a background in law or legal advice. We particularly welcome applications from people of colour, people aged under-30 and people with lived experience of issues the Law Centre assists with such as poverty and housing insecurity.
